Iron Mountain Ranch and Elkhorn Springs Community Information

The extremely popular communities of Iron Mountain Ranch and Silverstone Ranch in the "new Northwest of Las Vegas" have experienced tremendous recent growth. KB Homes, Pulte and Centex homes are major builders in the area. KB Home recently opened four models for the Mesa series at the Iron Mountain Ranch community, which features 10 designs priced from the $250,000s to the $280,000s.

"Iron Mountain Ranch has been an incredibly popular community with our home buyers," said Leah Bryant, president of KB Home's Las Vegas division. "Our home buyers like the location, the parks located in the neighborhoods, and the various floor plan choices..."

The newly opened models are the Stetson, Saddle, Bridle and Bandana. The Stetson is a single-story 1,442-square-foot home with two bedrooms, a den and two baths. The Saddle, which measures 1,658 square feet, is a two-story home with three bedrooms, two baths and an optional fourth bedroom and covered patio. Measuring 2,023 square feet, the Bridle is a two-story home with three bedrooms, a bonus room and two baths. Options include fourth and fifth bedrooms, another bath, loft, den, study and covered patio. The two-story Bandana measures 2,312 square feet with four bedrooms, a bonus room, great room and two baths. A balcony and covered patio are optional.

Also featured are homes from the Prairie, Frontier and Sierra series, offering a total of 14 models and 27 floor plans. The one- and two-story homes, measuring from 1,098 to 3,633 square feet, have two to seven bedrooms, two to four baths, and two- or three-car garages. They are priced from the $300,000s to the $400,000s.

Silverstone Ranch is also very popular and offers a variety of floor plans. A total of six home collections and 20 floor plans will eventually be featured at the community. The Princeville Collection offers single- and two-story designs ranging from 2,768 to 3,448 square feet. They are priced from the high $500,000s. Single-story designs ranging from 1,913 to 2,616 square feet are available in the Augusta Collection. Homes are priced from the mid $300,000s.

All homes that feature the builder's Platinum Plus Series Environments for Living technology, have earned the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star certification, and offer a three-year heating and cooling guarantee. The community is being built around the fairways of Silverstone Golf Club, a 27-hole championship golf course. A 34,000-square-foot clubhouse offers dining and banquet facilities.

In addition, plans call for neighborhood amenities such as parks, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds and an arbor. One neighborhood will have a guard-gated entry and a townhome development will have a social center and a swimming pool.

Indians were the first residents of the Las Vegas Valley. The ancient hunters and farmers were "discovered" by Euro-American explorers who settled in the valley to enjoy the warm, dry climate and stunning views. The monuments and parks found throughout the valley preserve the history of the ancient people and their dwellings, tools and art. Ghost towns and other historic sites preserve the memory of later arrivals in the desert.

One of the valley's most striking geological features is Red Rock Canyon, located just a short drive away from Elkhorn Springs and Iron Mountain Ranch. The canyon was formed by a thrust fault where one rock plate shifts horizontally over another at a fracture in the earth's crust. The 520-acre Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area contains multi-colored sandstone formations and unique flora, along with desert bighorn sheep, bobcats, gray foxes, wild burros and other animals. The conservation area also encompasses excellent hiking, mountain biking, and picnicking areas. The Red Rock Visitor Center houses displays that explain the geology, history, archeology, and plant and animal life found in the canyon and throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

Located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is Spring Mountain Ranch, named for the many springs that once provided water for the Paiute Indians. Past owners of the land include Chester Lauck of the comedy team "Lum & Abner," German actress Vera Krupp and millionaire Howard Hughes. Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is filled with large trees and is a wonderful place to hike, picnic or ride horses.

Another nearby attraction is Floyd Lamb State Park. Originally called Tule Springs, the park is known for its spring, another early water source for Native Americans. The area later became a privately owned working ranch, then a guest/dude ranch in the 1950s. The park has four small fishing lakes, picnic areas, tree-shaded groves and trails.

Also located close to Elkhorn Springs and Iron Mountain Ranch is Mt. Charleston, which offers unmatched opportunities for camping, hiking and winter skiing. Water sports enthusiasts will want to visit the nearby Lake Mead National Recreation Area, where boating, water skiing, camping, swimming and fishing are popular. Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada's oldest and largest, is located 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Hidden canyons, unique rock formations, petroglyphs and the remains of ancient Indian civilizations can be found throughout the park.

The city of Las Vegas originally served as a traveler's rest on the route to California. The Union Pacific Railroad arrived in 1905, bringing bars, gambling houses and other businesses to the valley. State legislators legalized gambling in 1936. Immediately Las Vegas was transformed with the construction of casinos and hotels. The city today is home to world-class entertainment, huge hotels with everything from gondolas on canals to a half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower to a great pyramid, a volcano and a medieval castle, along with every casino game imaginable.

Las Vegas has much more to offer, however, than just gambling. The city's rich history can be explored at several local museums, including the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society and the Las Vegas Museum of Natural History. The Zoological-Botanical Park encompasses four acres of desert plants and animals. The culturally inclined will enjoy a visit to an art gallery or a night at the Nevada Symphony or Nevada Dance Theatre. For sports fans, the Thunderbirds precision flying team calls Nellis Air Force Base home. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway -- home to NASCAR's "Las Vegas 400" and a host of other world-class motor racing events -- is just north of the city. In addition, local fans can attend an AAA baseball game and PGA or LPGA golf tournaments, and root for the UNLV "Rebels."
